Hi,
my name is Tina and I was delighted to see the 'One The Juggler'
site up and running, as I was a big fan back in the 80's. I first
got into them in about 1982 when my friend Mitzi said
she had seen them support Elvis Costello. She was raving about
them. So like she had done, so many times before, she nagged
me until I went to see them with her. But this band was unique
to me as they were not like any band I had seen before. At
the time I was really big into 'Squeeze', and still am actually,
but I also liked 'Elvis Costello', 'Ian Dury and the
Blockheads' and some of the new
wave stuff. As we are talking about 22/23 years ago, my memory
is failing a bit so I am not sure where I first saw them, as over
the couple of years they were around, I saw them all over London. I
Can remember they just blew me away. I loved the way that
they dressed all Romany like and the music, well that just speaks
for itself to anyone who knew it. Until a couple of months
ago, I had not heard any of their stuff for years as I only had
it on vinyl. I was really surprised at how fresh it still
sounded, it was not dated at all. Some of my favourite songs
were, 'Sister Soul , Junkies For Love, Patience Of A Saint, and
Are You The One', but I can honestly say that there was not one
song that I did not like. As we had been seeing them over
a couple of years, it was really sad they they just fizzled out. We
were waiting for the new stuff to come out and then concerts
but it never happened. But I will always remember my days
a trapsing around to see them with great fondness. One time
myself and Mitzi went to see them support 'Big Country' in Southampton. It
was a big theatre full of checked shirts and there was Mitzi and
I right up in the balcony cheering them on, its a wonder we never
got beat up and thrown over the top. Everyone thought we
were mad. They were not appreciated by the Big Country Fans
at all. Once they had done their set we went home in
dense fog I might add. Another time a very close friend of
ours was doing his first gig with his own band. He needed
our support more than ever, but we still left early to see the
lads at The Marquee. I know it was a terrible thing to do
but we could not get enough of their music, they were just so good. Well
for what it is worth to anyone who might be interested, that
is my little story. Goodbye for
now. Tina.
